NOTICE TO NEW AND EXISTING SUBSCRIBERS REGARDING TRANSMISSION OF WIRELESS EMERGENCY ALERTS
(Commercial Mobile Alert Service)

Docomo Pacific presently does not transmit wireless emergency alerts. Notice required by FCC Rule 47 CFR 10.250
(Commercial Mobile Alert Service).

What are Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) or Commercial Mobile Alert System (CMAS)?

What is Commercial Mobile Alert System (CMAS)?

The Commercial Mobile Alert System (CMAS) is a national public safety system that allows customers who own a CMAS-enabled mobile device to receive geographically-targeted text messages. These broadcast messages will alert customers of imminent threats to their safety within their immediate area.

There are three types of alerts through CMAS:

  1. Alerts issued by the President
  2. Alerts involving imminent threats to life or property issued by the National Weather Service or other authorized emergency management agency
  3. Amber Alerts (missing child alert)

Why doesn't Docomo Participate in CMAS?

Like other wireless carriers on Guam, Docomo Pacific has opted not to participate in CMAS at the present time. Reasons include:

  1. Guam already has severe weather alert systems in place to warn Guam residents of typhoons and other imminent weather-related occurrences.
  2. The number of handsets that are equipped to receive CMAS alerts is still very limited.
  3. There is no Amber Alert system in place on Guam at the present time.

If there is a national disaster alert or weather warning, how will I be notified?

There are a number of resources that will assist Guam residents in the event of a natural disaster or other event that threatens life or property (terrorist attack, outbreak of illness, etc.) Local Television, radio and news outlets will coordinate with national agencies on Guam, including the National Weather Service and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
